The Youth Justice and Power Union is hosting a Youth Unemployment Fair and Action at City Hall to amplify the voices of youth calling for increased jobs funding this year. City Hall has frozen youth jobs funding for the past 5 years. Level funding is not enough! We demand $8.5 million for 5,000 summer jobs and 1,000 year round jobs, and for 14 and 19 year olds to be included on BYF.
On Tuesday, June 17th from 3-5 p.m., YJPU is hosting a Youth Unemployment Fair, including:
– Pin the Tail on the Budget– Frozen Budget Ice Cream– Flash Mob for Youth Jobs– Palm Reading: Are Youth Jobs in Your Future?– Fair food and snacks
We’ve met with all the City Councilors, but need 350 people out to make the final push to ensure that we get an increase THIS YEAR.
Jobs Campaign Updates: YJPU has met with 12 out of 13 City Councilors, as well as Shari Davis, the head of BYF. Many City Councilors have committed to write letters to the Mayor and meet with him to push youth jobs as one of their top priorities. We are also continuing to follow up with the Mayor around his commitment to meet with us around youth jobs funding and policy.
We have City Council support – now we need people power! Building off the momentum of our May flash mob actions and presence at the BYF hearing, this action is our final major mobilization and push to show public support for these demands. We need you there! RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org today.
