House of Creativity Inaugural Annual Exhibition

posted in: Events | 0

House of Creativity is a program by Voices of Liberation to support currently and formerly incarcerated artists with paid opportunities to show and sell their art. We are hosting our first annual exhibition of art work at MassArt from Monday November 27 – Friday December 15.

We invite you to join us as we debut work from 50+ artists who all are currently incarcerated or have at one time under some form of carceral state supervision. The artists in this first show come from across the country to our own backyard and represent a diverse array of backgrounds in terms of age, race, gender, and so many other aspects of identity and experience that informs their life and art work. What connects all the work is an exploration of the ideas of humanity, of community and of interconnectedness and relationships. As you engage with this work, we ask you to consider your freedoms and the ways creativity and creation helps you maintain them, wherever you may find yourself.

There will be an opening reception on Thursday November 30 from 6:00-8:00 PM featuring live music, conversations with some of the artists and curators and communal reflection time.
